Last week, both kindy groups were able to connect more deeply with Turrbal Country, by visiting Bunyaville Environmental Education Centre for their Easter Bilby program. We explored some stories about bilbies, threats to their numbers, and where they live, before heading on our excursion.
When we were there, we learned more about the bilbies’ homes by crawling into a bilby ‘burrow’. We met the funny ‘Professor’ who read us a story and then took us for a bush walk to look for wooden eggs. Then we helped pick up all the Easter rubbish that ‘Flash Rabbit’ had scattered in the bush.
When we reflected as a group about our trip to Bunyaville, ALL of the children said that their favourite part of the day was hugging the bilby!
Thank you to all of the deadly families who were able to help on on the day!
Learning on Country is an extremely valuable practice for us all.
